Information about Troop 133
Troop 133 is chartered by Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Our meetings are held each Tuesday evening, 7:00 to 8:30, at the Scout Hut, located across Sardis Road from the church. There are approximately 40 registered scouts and 25 adult volunteers active in various aspects of the troop.
Troop 133 has been in existance since 1976, and during that time has had 87 young men reach the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank a scout can attain. Troop 133 prides itself on being a scout-led troop, with the adult leadership acting as advisors and coaches to the young leaders.
Our troop is active 12 months of the year, with a trip scheduled every month of the year. Our policy is to have 4 trips per year be backpacking trips, with the Appalachian Trail, the Pisgah National Forest, the Sumter National Forest, and the Uwharrie National Forest being popular destinations. The remainder of our trips incorporate such activities as canoeing, biking, fishing, rafting, caving, climbing, or just going to the beach! The troop normally takes a high adventure trip for the older scouts each summer as well. Every third summer we plan a trip to the Philmont Scout Reservation in Cimarron, NM (we last made that trip in 2003,so we plan to go again in 2006). In the summers in between, we plan a trip of our own. In 2004 we are doing a bare boat sailing charter from Miami to the Bahamas (a trip we also took in 1995 and 1999), and in 2002 we went to the Denali National Forest in Alaska. For 2005, we are planning an extended biking and canoeing trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
